Tiger Zoo and Aquarium on Koh Samui is one of the island’s attractions, usually positioned as a children’s attraction. Administratively and territorially they are united and are called “Aquarium & Tiger Zoo”. Located within the Samui Orchid The Ocean Resort, they were built just over twenty years ago. That was long enough for them to gain popularity and even get the status of a must see. In our opinion, it’s more of an attraction than a Samui attraction.
Tiger Zoo
The Samui Tiger Zoo is considered such by the sight of its largest inhabitants. Not only can you see rare feline species such as the Bengal tiger, but also have your photograph taken with them. In addition to them, in the cages live monkeys, otters, parrots, toucans and other representatives of tropical fauna. The aviaries are small, more like cages, which reduces the attraction of visiting compared to other large zoos in the country. At Khao Kheow near Pattaya, for example, tigers live almost at ease.
Animal show
The Samui Zoo – is a place where visitors are entertained with animal shows. Performances begin at 1 p.m. with seals performing in a small pool. Then birds appear on stage to guess numbers and perform other simple tricks. The most spectacular is the performance of tigers and leopards. They jump over obstacles and rings of fire and perform other circus acts in their profile.
Between the seals and parrots performances, there is a half-hour break, during which there is an opportunity to eat at the restaurant, walk around the zoo and take pictures against the backdrop of the enclosures.
Aquarium
The Samui Aquarium is certainly much smaller than the Bangkok Oceanarium, but it is still worth seeing for children and adults alike. Its interior is a wide darkened corridor, with small illuminated aquariums built into the walls. There are a variety of tropical fish, which can be kept in the home aquarium, as well as large underwater dwellers – sharks, morays, rays. As well as various bottom dwellers – crabs, sea urchins, mollusks and invertebrates. A bonus of the visit is the opportunity to feed sea turtles.
Hours and costs
Aquarium & Tiger Zoo is open to the public every day, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Tickets for adults cost 750 baht and 450 baht for children. If your child is less than 100cm tall, he or she will be admitted for free. SEAL show starts at 1:30 pm, and tiger show at 2:30 pm. We advise you to come closer to this time, otherwise the experience will not justify the price of the ticket. Next to the zoo there is a hotel with a swimming pool, where they let the excursionists.
How to get there
The Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo is located on the southeastern coast of Koh Samui, near Ban Harn beach. You can get there only by rented car, cab, tuk-tuk or as part of a tour.
