Touristy Pattaya is an urban agglomeration consisting of itself and several satellite towns which are so closely merged with the metropolis that the tourists consider them as part of the same whole. – English transliteration of the Thai name looks like “Chom Tien” or “Jomtien” – is also a separate administrative unit, located three kilometers south of central Pattaya. It differs significantly from it and other condominiums (Naklua) in that it has no “urban jungle”, it is relatively quiet. According to tourists, Jomtien Beach in Pattaya – this is one of the best places for family vacation with children in Thailand! So, let’s start the review…

District and beach features

Jomtien Beach stretches a narrow strip along the north shore of the bay, starting at Cape Pattaya and ending at Sath Heep town, for a full five kilometers. A little further south, about two kilometers away, is a small town for loving tourists called Mimosa. Along the coastline there is a highway. It and the beach are separated by a narrow strip of palm forest. Only to the north, where Dongtan Beach is conventionally located, does the highway turn into a pedestrian zone.

The highway that separates the beach area from the residential area is not too busy, but because of it hotels near Jomtien Beach in Pattaya are considered to stand on the second line, and therefore they are cheaper. All the infrastructure of this area is concentrated along the alleys, perpendicular to the highway. They are all named Jomtien and the number increases from north to south. The only lane overlooking Sukhumvit Road is called Boonkanjana, and it is located about midway.

Shopping in Jomtien - Thepprasit Market

Thepprasit Market

Markets in Pattaya’s Jomtien district, where shopaholics can satisfy their passion, are located along Thepprasit Street (Thepprasit Market). Most of them are concentrated at the intersection with Sukhumvit Highway. This is the place where the natives (locals) prefer to shop, so the prices there are almost an order of magnitude lower than in touristy Central Pattaya.

Jomtien Hotels

Most of the hotels in the area are multi-story buildings with several hundred rooms, such as the Grand Jomtien Palace. Some are older, some are more recent. If you are a fan of bungalows, then Jomtien is definitely not for you. Five kilometers of coastline provides the amateur tourist a lot of chances to find an inexpensive and democratic gest-house. When choosing a shelter of this format should be borne in mind that it is usually located furthest from the sea (10 minutes walk) and surrounded by drinking establishments of varying degrees of “frozen”. So the nighttime concerts before and after midnight are for sure guaranteed. But the prices can please you. They charge from 400 baht for a day’s stay. Reservations are not provided. You come, there are seats, and you’re settled in. In general, reservation of hotels in Thailand – is a separate important topic. Jomtien Beach, almost like the northern Pratamnak, is one of the most tranquil places in passionate Pattaya. There is no stone jungle, no constant stream of cars and motorcycles on the streets. It’s a place where you can just walk around, like somewhere in Kabardinka near Gelendzhik.

The coastal area is considered the cleanest among the other Pattaya beaches, not counting the Military – Sai Kaew Beach, though you won’t be able to notice any drastic differences from the same Pattaya Beach. The sand is regular, yellowish, moderately trampled. The crystal clear water, as on Ko Lan Island, you will not find, too. It’s best to relax there, lying on a lounger or taking a stroll in the evenings.
