Phuket Aquarium is equipped with an underwater tunnel with a glass vault. Its length is several tens of meters. Walking through it creates the feeling of being at the bottom of the ocean. Visitors are surrounded on all sides by a riot of life and colors, typical of all tropical seas in Southeast Asia. The variety of species and shapes makes you dizzy, and the close proximity of the underwater action creates the illusion of presence.
Local fauna representatives
The tunnel runs through several themed areas. For example, one section is devoted entirely to a coral reef, so skillfully crafted that its inhabitants are not even aware they are objects of observation and study. You can see all the collisions of underwater life in their natural state. Clownfish, which abound in a variety of shapes and colors, are the most memorable. But the keen observer will spot other interesting animals as well, such as seahorses, morays, sea anemones, starfish and crustaceans.
The adjacent sections of the aquarium are home to inhabitants of the deep sea and predators – several species of sharks, huge groupers, electric eels, and sea turtles live there. All of them feel at home and lead a natural way of life. Interactive displays show detailed information about the underwater world off the coast of Thailand – the features of the structure and life of any of the 150 species of animals and fish, there is an audio guide. Unfortunately, the language is only English and Thai.
The Phuket Aquarium in Thailand has recently been delighting visitors with interactive shows. They can see how the aquarium staff, dressed in wetsuits, dive into the depths and feed sharks and other inhabitants from their hands. This action is very popular with both children and adults (read more about holidays in Phuket with children).
Phuket Oceanarium is very popular among families with children, because the excursions are not only interesting, but also not tiresome – the whole tunnel can be passed in half an hour of leisurely stroll. And you can recuperate and share your impressions in the cafe, located nearby. From its veranda there is a beautiful view of the coast. Nearby there is a souvenir store. Of course, this place can not compete with the more famous and large-scale institutions of this kind, such as Ocean World Oceanarium in Bangkok, but the scale of a not too large piece of land in the Andaman Sea it is quite appropriate.
Cost to visit
Adult admission costs from 180 baht, children 100 baht. Children under 108 cm entrance is free. Seniors over 60 years old are also admitted free of charge.
Schedule of work
Operating every day, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No tickets are sold after 4pm. If you want to see the shark feeding, come on Saturday and Sunday by 11:00. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
