Patong Beach, unlike other Phuket beaches is considered the main tourist center of the island. However, until the mid-50s it was a small fishing village. Its transformation into one of the centers of world tourism began in July 1967, when the Sarasin Bridge connected the island with the mainland, and then the construction of the first hotels began on the magnificent sandy beaches of the west coast, the least affected by tin mining.
Patong Beach is the most partying place to stay, with the most developed entertainment infrastructure. In addition to hotels, there are many notorious Go-Go bars, bars, stores, salons Thai massage. The exuberant nightlife of the beach gave it a bad reputation – it is considered the dirtiest place on the island. hotels at Patong Beach in Phuket are for every taste. You can stay there with a very fat purse, and having in your pocket a couple of hundred “extra” baht. However, you will not have to settle for a luxury view of the sea, but a modest room in a hostel.
What is Patong Beach like
.
Patong area in Phuket is the west coast, the central part of the island. The sandy surface stretches for three kilometers in a continuous strip, its width not more than 30 meters, and it is separated from the city by a narrow strip of palm trees, a footpath and a highway with rather busy traffic.
This place could well be compared to central Pattaya – the same huge number of sunbeds and scurrying cars nearby. All kinds of restaurants and halmanas, where the food is good and inexpensive, are on the opposite side of the highway. The advantage of Patong compared to Pattaya is that the beach is more spacious, and the water is much cleaner. We can’t argue about the landscape, but personally we like it better.
Interested in what to see in Patong, disappointment awaits. It’s a place of entertainment. For all sorts of interesting things you should go a few kilometers further south. For example, in Katu there is a museum of mining. During the rainy season, the Katu waterfall (Thanon Namtokkathu Street) is interesting.
A set of beach entertainment is quite standard – jet skis, “bananas”. They are not cheap – from 500 to 2000 baht. Renting a deck chair with an umbrella for the whole day will cost from 100 baht. Patong will appeal to those who want to party on a full night program. On Bangla Road has everything that is described by the phrase “people for debauchery gathered. And if you crave some peace and solitude, you’re better off going to Kata Beach or Caron Beach.
Entertainment in Patong
.
In the evening, all you have to do is come to the center of Patong to find yourself at the island’s most crazy party. The entertainment in Patong is varied, but mostly 18+. Fueled by Bangla Road, running perpendicular to the coastal highway. Almost all of it is occupied by beer bars under tents, each with their own music. In the alleys there are discotheques, Go-Go bars, salons of Thai and intimate massage, go hunting for “night butterflies” (read more about Phuket prostitutes) and other institutions for carnal pleasure. The fun starts at 6 pm, at which time the traffic is completely blocked. Just south of Bangla is the famous Cabaret Simon, which hosts a transvestite show every day.

Patong stores and markets
.
Patong’s stores may well satisfy the most discerning shopping enthusiasts. For example, the Jungceylon shopping center, located at the intersection of Bangla Road and Ratutit Street, offers good jewelry, jewelry, Thai cosmetics and perfumes, quality copies of audio and video recordings, almost original iPhones and iPads. This shopping area is represented by Robinson Department Store and Big C Hypermarket, as well as a couple of hundred small stores. There’s also an entertainment area – a movie theater, a bowling alley. It is the second largest on the island after Central Festival, located at the intersection of Chaloem Phra Kiat Rd and Wichit Songkhram Rd in Phuket Town.
The markets by Patong Beach in Phuket usually start when the evening chill arrives. The main one is the Royal Paradise Night Market, so named because of the nearby hotel. There are nearly a hundred small stores occupying part of Rat-U-Thit Street and a few nearby lanes. The more democratic and lively market is situated along the promenade. Local artisans flock there. In an atmosphere of permanent chaos, leather goods, souvenirs, beachwear and counterfeit disks are sold.
Nearby the Jungceylon Mall is the Banzaan Market food market. It is European-style clean and you can buy meat, vegetables, flowers, sweets. You can try freshly squeezed juices of exotic fruits. And if you want to save money, go to the department of prepared foods. The top floor of the building is occupied by a large food court where they feed authentic Thai dishes.
Hotels on Patong Beach
.
Unfortunately, there is no direct access to the coast for any of the Patong hostels and hotels, as they are further away than the 1st line. Therefore, to reach the beach you will have to cross one or more roadways.
Since this area is spread out over more than one kilometer, it is not difficult to find accommodation. There are over a thousand different places to stay in Phuket, less than half of which are in Patong. Prices are designed for tourists with absolutely different thickness of the wallet, you can find a cheap gesture for 450 baht per day, and luxury hotels for 5000 and more. Road to Patong Beach
.
How to get to Patong Beach in Phuket from popular tourist destinations on the island.
Here we want to tell you how to get to Patong Beach in Phuket.
From Phuket Town
.
Drive to Patong from Phuket Town is best via the municipal shuttles buses, most of which depart from the Down Town Market on Ranong Road. They leave at half-hour intervals. You can also leave from the city’s old bus station on Pang Nga Road.
If you see a blue pickup with Patong written on it instead of the usual bus, you can rest assured – this is the one. The size doesn’t matter. The route goes past the Central Festival Shopping Center and Makro Hypermarket. After that, the bus turns left, toward the sea. They stop at every palm tree, picking up every native. So it takes you about 40-45 minutes to get there.
From the airport
.
Phuket Airport is just north of Patong, 25 km away, if you take a straight line.
As soon as you walk out the doors of the passenger terminal, a local Thai cab driver is sure to approach you and offer to take his minivan for a ride anywhere on the island. He will take 150-200 baht to Patong, and fifty baht to the hotel. Please note that until there are 10-12 passengers, the cab driver will not depress the accelerator pedal. Large luggage, he also will not take – put it nowhere. It makes sense for a friendly company to take a transfer. It will get you to the hotel door without delay. The price of the trip depends on your bargaining skills. The Thais may well forget to turn on the meter.
If you are more comfortable with an air-conditioned bus, then don’t be lazy to turn left and walk 100 meters. Besides the municipal transportation, the Phuket Airport Bus Express stops there. Ticket price from 120 Baht. The cabin is usually half empty. There are no problems with loading the luggage.
The airport bus is located in the center of the city.
On your own way
.
If you have taken care of renting a bike in Phuket or car in advance, you can get around the whole island. Getting around the island is quite simple: from Sarasin Bridge to the south, all the way Phuket Town, the Thep Kasattri Road is followed by roads leading out to the coastal highways.
