Twenty kilometers south of the central Pattaya Beach, near the village of Bang Sarai, is Sai Kaew Beach in Pattaya. It is so called for the reason that it is located within the training base of the Thai Navy. In addition to the utilitarian – “Beach of the military base”, there is a more romantic name: “Blue Lagoon”.
Military beach in Pattaya can be visited by anyone who pays 100 baht. Thai military sailors consider this to be sufficient compensation for indirect interference with their training center. But such a liberal stance was taken only in 2003, before that the shoreline was strictly guarded.
The total length of Sai Keo Beach is just over half a kilometer and not more than thirty meters wide. Real blue lagoon is surrounded on all sides by low hills, overgrown with palm trees. They are an excellent protection from the monsoon winds and the reason why the water in the bay is crystal clear most of the year.
The entrance to the water is extremely gentle, at low tide the water goes almost 50 meters, leaving small warm lakes in which children can safely splash (read more about where you can go with children in Pattaya). And even in full water in the bay there are no big waves. For this reason, Sai Keo Beach in Pattaya is very popular with couples. The area adjacent to the beach, ennobled, everywhere smashed little flowerbeds, tied between the trees swing. Cleanliness and order are monitored by cadets whose platoon is sent out every day in the evening to pick up trash, water the flowers and mow the lawn.
Entertainment at Military Beach in Pattaya
The Blue Lagoon in Pattaya is particularly appealing to those looking to get away from the bustling and somewhat extreme pastime of the city limits. There you can taste all the delights vacation wildlife. But the coastal scenes and the panorama of the sea are not inferior to the ones in Phuket. And we especially want to mention the purity of the water, a pleasure long impossible even on Jomtien.
Sai Kaew Beach in Pattaya is favored by Thais for weekend getaways, so it’s just as crowded on weekends as Naklua Beach. Picnics under the shade of trees are a common form of relaxation. For sports enthusiasts, there are also volleyball tournaments these days.
What to do at Pattaya Military Beach? You can rent a jet ski or water ski. The first one costs 1000 baht for a quarter of an hour. And the second 1.5 thousand for half an hour ride. You can limit yourself to floating on an inflatable mattress, which costs only a hundred baht to rent for the day. And you can also get the basic skills of a scuba diver (read more about diving in Thailand). Usually dive instructors hang out on the south side of the beach, where there is more depth.
Those seeking complete seclusion usually go to the right of the central part of the beach, but the consequences of this choice can be racketeering by wild monkeys. These primates are not only brazen, but often aggressive. Therefore, you should not mollycoddle, baiting them with tasty morsels. Better watch out for things, especially shiny things.
Sai Keo Beach infrastructure
The Blue Lagoon Beach in Pattaya does not boast a developed infrastructure. The proximity of an active naval base severely restricts the tourist boom in the area. Along the coast stretches a narrow paved path, behind which built a few cafes. The price of the check in them starts at fifty baht. If you want to have a proper lunch, you can visit a restaurant with a fairly diverse menu. The food is delicious. The freshest shrimp are served for 150 baht. In addition to the catering outlets, there are numerous stalls and kiosks selling drinks, ice cream and souvenirs.
You can rent beach and hiking equipment in the center of the beach. In addition to the banal inflatable laps, masks, fins and mattresses, they offer kayaks, equipment for diving and even jet skis. A big plus of this beach are the fresh water showers and well-equipped changing rooms. One of the tents has a Thai massage salon.
Note! Don’t hope to have fun on this beach at night. There is no such establishment there. It closes after 6:00 pm.
Hotels on Military Beach
There are no hotels on Military Beach in Pattaya. If you want to spend the night without going back to the city, you have to use the services of bungalows. There are fifteen of them and they are built right on the beach. They are rather ascetic boarded houses for one or two families (the entrances are different). The simplest room with only a fan will cost you a minimum of 700 baht. If you want to live closer to the water and with more amenities, then you will have to pay at least 1 thousand baht per night.

Tourist-transfer
The easiest way to get to Sai Kaew Beach is to use one of the many travel agencies. All you need to do is specify a time and they will pick you up right from the hotel porch and bring you back after 4pm. If you take a minivan as a group, transfer will cost you 350 baht per passenger and 800 baht individually. This price includes a round trip and entrance ticket to the beach. If you also want to have lunch, the cost of travel will increase by 500 baht. The advantage of this choice is the ease of entry into the protected area.
Taxi
To get to Military Beach in Pattaya on your own you can take a taxi. Order it at the hotel reception or just catch it on the street. Tell the driver: “Sai Keo Beach,” he’ll understand. Don’t give more than 500 baht for the ride. You will be brought to the checkpoint of the military base where you leave your passport or other ID as a deposit. After that you will be given a pass and a local tuk-tuk (scooter with a body) will take you to the second checkpoint, where you will be charged 100 baht for entrance.
Municipal-songteo
Enter the Sukhumvit Highway and stop the white-colored sungteo that are heading south from Pattaya. Only they go past the checkpoint. And don’t forget to tell the driver, “Sai Keo Beach”. Otherwise he won’t stop. The procedure at the checkpoint is similar.
Rented-car
The path follows Sukhumvit Highway south, past Float Market and Nong Nooch Garden. You can also navigate to the Ambassador Hotel, after passing by which you should head towards Bang Sarai Beach. The Blue Lagoon is two kilometers away. First you pass the Cartoon Network Amazone water park, and turn right at the second traffic light, not far from which is the entrance to the military base. You leave any document as a deposit and drive your car to the second checkpoint on the territory of the military camp to the fork, where there are signs.
Turn in the right direction (Sai Kaew Beach), go to the third checkpoint and leave your car in the free parking lot. Pay 100 baht for the entrance (kids under 1 meter tall are free, the rest 50 baht) and change to a free tuk-tuk, which takes you to the place. These scooters stop at 6 pm. Don’t try to walk, the travel agencies have an unspoken collusion with the military, who detain the most active ones.
