To get from one major tourist center to another there are many alternative ways – convenient and not very convenient, which eat up half of the vacation budget and are not expensive at all. So here are some helpful tips on how to get from Phuket to Koh Samui on your own, combining different modes of transportation and even creating your own private transfers.
How to get from Phuket to Samui by plane
The fastest way to get to Koh Samui is by direct flight from Phuket International Airport to Samui Airport. However, it is also the most expensive. The flight is offered by Bangkok Airways once a day.
For those who prefer to fly with Bangkok Airways, you can use the flight search and booking form.
For those who prefer to fly by plane, there is another option – it is to get first with a connection to Bangkok, and then the final delivery to Samui by ferry. This option is, of course, the most “frozen,” because it’s about the same as going from Moscow to St. Petersburg via Vladivostok. But you’ll make a whole separate trip around the country. An interesting option of connecting transfer offers the company Airasia. The ticket price (about 4500 baht) includes a flight to the airport in Nakhon Si Tammarat province, driving to the ferry from Don Sak pier (departs for Samui during daylight hours every hour) and landing at Lipa Noi beach (read an interesting article on the best beaches on Samui).

Transfer Phuket-Samui, comparable in cost and time to airfare. How to get from Phuket to Samui by bus
Bus Phuket-Samui is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to travel from one island to another, travel time is about six hours. The tourist bus departs from Phuket North Bus Station (terminal N2) at nine in the morning. The ticket price is 450 baht and includes a ferry crossing. The travel time is divided roughly as follows: 4.5 hours on the highway and 1.5 hours on the ferry. The bus has no toilet, but it is air conditioned. It makes a stop in one of the roadside villages two hours after the start. There you can rest for a while, go to a Thai toilet or, alternatively, refuel with ice cream, fried rice, drinks.
Even cheaper to get to Koh Samui is to take a freight bus that goes from Phuket Town (departure point on map) to Surat Thani (official website of the company). The bus service in this area is very active – once an hour there is a minivan (our marshrutka counterpart), and after two hours there is a big bus. The ticket costs 195 baht. Then you need to get to ferry Phuket-Samui (very relative name, because between these points the territory of the peninsula of Malacca), departing from the pier Don Sak. It takes about eight to nine hours and costs about three hundred baht.

How to get from Phuket to Samui by car or bike
If you are frozen with the question “how to get to Samui cheaper?”, and you are also an extreme and a real space conqueror, then take a rent a bike in Phuket and go on your own journey. The travel time from Phuket to the Raia or Seatran piers at Don Sak is about eight hours. The ferry ticket costs 150 baht, you will be charged another 50 baht for your bike. The boat trips start at five in the morning (Raia Pier) and finish at seven in the evening. There are no queues and no rush at the sea station – there are flights every hour.
