Wondering what and what do Thais eat? This article may answer that question.
Thailands eat what?
Thailand is traditionally a meal in Thailand similar to China, where people eat in groups. People are seated together at a table with shared food in the center. Only a portion of rice on a separate plate is given to each person individually. The common dishes are eaten in small pieces (peculiarities of Thai cuisine).
It doesn’t matter what people eat in Thailand because the locals are considered gourmands. Thais eat everything, so they tend to try a little of everything on the table. Usually special tables with a rotating circular center are used in the eating process. Anyone present can turn the Thai dish of interest to them.
Most tourists believe that in all Asian countries they eat exclusively with special chopsticks. Chopsticks are also used in Thailand in the process of eating, but they are not the only help for the locals while they are at the table. Thai people can eat with:
- Sticks. The people of Thailand use them in the process of eating various types of noodles, such as Pad Thai. Chopsticks are served with sushi, but Thais eat them more often with their hands. Chopsticks are not served with anything else.
- Hands. This is the way Thais eat at home. Hands are used to eat any food except liquid dishes. Farang may find this way a bit strange especially when everyone runs their hands into the common portion with gravy residue or sticky rice.
- Tableware. A fork and spoon are only served in restaurants and cafes. Some Thais use them at home as well. In this case the fork is used by locals to put food in the spoon, which goes directly into the mouth with the food.

Resume that about 60% of the local Population of Thailand eats by hand. They are aware of cutlery, but do not consider it a great necessity. Chopsticks are more familiar to Thais.
