Lakes in Thailand are quite rare, some of them are man-made, such as Cheo Lan in the mountains of the Malacca peninsula. The more interesting to visit such a natural formation, especially if it is accompanied by a tour through a pristine rainforest, which in Thailand almost everywhere are cut down. If you take the Phetchecasem Road south from Krabi Town, turn left at Klong Thom and drive to the border of Trang Province. . Like all the lakes in this park, Sa Morakot is a low-salinity body of water whose concentration of salts gives the water its emerald color. It was formed at the point where several forest streams join together. It is the closest to the site of the official entrance to the park, about a kilometer east of it. The Emerald Lake in Krabi is the largest of all, with a diameter of about 30 meters and a depth of 2 meters. Swimming is only allowed in it. The color of the water varies from light blue to emerald throughout the day. Its temperature sometimes reaches 500C. From the bottom of the lake flows hot mineral springs, the flow of water over them creates a natural hydromassage effect. The lake is situated in a natural rock bowl, its bottom is rather hard, but you can slip when entering. From there begins a trail that leads further into the jungle to one of the springs that feed the lake. Its name is Blue Pool – Blue Lake. The path to it is quite well equipped, with several observation towers – viewpoints, at the top of which a metal spiral staircase leads. Sa Nam Phut, as locals call Blue Lake in Krabi, is located in the heart of the nature park. The lake is formed by a mineral spring flowing from the bottom. Thanks to the current of the water, the dark muddy sediments are carried to the shore, revealing a piercing blue spot in its center. It’s very small, you could easily pass by it without noticing it at all if it weren’t for the bright blue color of the bottom sediments, making the water just glow in the semi-darkness of the surrounding jungle. Bathing in it is forbidden for two reasons: not to disturb the ecological balance, as well as because of the waterlogged, muddy bottom, with many snags on it. On the shore of the lake is a wooden platform. Sitting on it you can play with this magical body of water: clap your hands and gas bubbles rise from the bottom. Khao Nor Chuchi Park is not an official nature reserve; the locals there do their own chores. For example, they extract natural rubber. And the road to it is not a tourist route. Nevertheless, if you decide to to get to the lakes in Krabi on your own, you will be helped by numerous road signs, which are illustrated with photos. From Krabi Town you have to drive south for about 40 kilometers, to Klong Thom town, and then turn left onto the Rural Road. Take this road to the village of Lam Thap. There is a 12 kilometers long dirt track leading to the park. The sign says Sa Morakot. The price of the entrance ticket is 200 baht, children are half the price. Add to that the cost of parking – 30 baht for a car and 10 bikes or bikes. If you’re an extreme and well versed in space, you can bypass the official entrance by jungle trails. If you’re an extreme person and good at navigating, you can go around the jungle. It’s best to plan your visit for weekdays, and at any rate, try to arrive early when there aren’t as many visitors to the park. Officially, the park opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m.
