What do I need to bring to Thailand? Packing your suitcase

Hi all! Once I wrote an article “What to take to Thailand from cosmetics and medicines”, now I want to advise those who cannot decide what to take to Thailand from other things, that is, I will give you tips on how to pack a suitcase. The things that I advise to take with you, in principle, you can take in Thailand itself, in some cases, you even gain in money.

But if you have extra space left in your suitcase, the most necessary things you may need on the first day are best taken with you. In this case you do not have to run to the store immediately after arrival for sunscreen, so that you don’t burn in Thailand, for example, but plan this day, resting on the best beaches in Phuket. In general, I’ll say this – take half as much stuff with you and twice as much money as you’d like in both cases.

Let’s say you’ve already bought cheap airfare to Thailand. Now I want to share a list of things that are best to take with you (of course, some of them can be bought on the spot, but it is advisable to do it as soon as possible):

Sunglasses. I don’t know about you, but I would rather put them in my suitcase ahead of time. And, about, swimming goggles – it is an optional item, you can buy them in Thailand, but the money you’re not going to win much there. Read tips about How to choose sunglasses according to the shape of your face.

Sunwear or swimsuit (and casual underwear). You can buy all these things in Thailand (cheaper than in Russia), but if you want to rush off the plane to the beach, take these swimming gear with you.

Bathing suits.

City map. You’ll need to get one right after you arrive at Bangkok International Airport. Choose one that is more detailed, so that it displays as many objects and names as possible. You can view the maps in advance at “Maps of resorts in Thailand”.

Lightweight clothing. What clothes are better to pack in a suitcase is up to you, but you should not take particularly much. What you don’t need can be bought on the spot at a lower price than in Russia.

Lightweight clothing is best packed in a suitcase.

Sunscreen. Regarding climate in Thailand, it is quite different from ours, read more in the article “How to properly tan in Thailand”.

In the first days, even if they are overcast, and if you have unprepared or white skin, be sure to use sunscreen and if possible, limit your time in the sun. Because in Thailand you can get burnt even in the shade.

In Thailand it is possible to get burnt even when you are in the shade.

Shoes I would take in your place in Thailand two pairs of shoes plus flip-flops. You will have to walk a lot, thus if you rub the calluses from one shoe, then putting the other one on, you will feel easy to walk again. Naturally, as long as you don’t rub new ones.

Documents. These are your passport, plane tickets, medical insurance for Thailand, proof of reservation return ticket from Thailand, and their photocopies. You may leave your internal passport at home. Naturally, the documents, money, bank cards do not think to put in the suitcase, keep them with you. How not to lose your money on vacation, we have already discussed.

Money. Keep the bulk of your money on bank cards. For petty spending in airports and exchange, take dollars with you, later you will exchange them for baht (foreign exchange in Thailand). Try not to exchange money in the airports and in no case in the hotels because of the unprofitable rates. Also check out the article “How they cheat in hotels in Thailand”.

What to take to Thailand from gadgets

Camera If you want to take a good quality picture without the need for Photoshop, it would be preferable to bring an SLR.

Notebook or tablet. Better, of course, the laptop (read more in the article “What to take on vacation, laptop or tablet? “). In your free time, you will be able to drop photos and (or) video on it, freeing up the run-out memory on the camera, as well as to spend your free time with movies and games. Keeping your devices running requires constant recharging of your batteries, and for that, you should consider what do Thai outlets look like and will they fit with a euro plug?

If two of you are flying to Thailand and you plan to watch videos or listen to music from one device during your flight, and so you don’t have to share a pair of headphones, take one of the audio jacks suggested below and two pairs of headphones for each. Otherwise, you won’t be able to watch (listen) in comfort because of the rumble of the plane.
