Nai Yang Beach is Phuket’s most tranquil and authentic beach

Nai Yang Beach in Phuket is quite close to the island’s air harbor, about a kilometer away. Nearby are the beaches of Mai Khao (to the north) and Nighton. The beach has no exact boundary, neither administrative nor natural. Just a strip of sand about 2 km long, which is commonly referred to as Nai Young Beach.

Despite its proximity to Phuket Airport, this place is one of the most peaceful and authentic on the island and the least touched by civilization. Besides the great environment, there’s nothing else there – no nightclubs, no big supermarkets, no noisy markets or even bars with available girls. Once you’re in Nai Yang is surrounded by tropical greenery, under his feet the soft warm sand, and in front – the vast Andaman Sea with clear azure waters. Life on the beach completely dies down immediately after sunset, almost the entire coast plunges into darkness, dissipated only where there are a dozen hotels.

North side of the beach

The north side of Nai Yang Beach in Phuket is rarely visited by tourists. This place is beloved by the natives and is revered by them as a place for family vacations. Bathing the kids is very promoted by a very gentle entrance to the sea – a few tens of meters all on the knee. In the evenings and on weekends the whole family clans have a rest there. The strip of sand is not wide – no more than ten meters. Just beyond it begins the lawn – green grass and small tropical forest, where you can find the desired shade. Sun loungers and umbrellas are completely absent in this part of the beach.

There are hotels in this part of the beach, but they are behind the road, which is about a hundred meters from the beach. They are all of the so-called bungalow type. During the day, visitors to the beach are served by a few boxmen, offering chicken and rice stew and fruit.

The beach is a very popular place to eat.

.

It gets totally dark right after sunset, no street lighting here. If you want to walk at night, then by all means take a flashlight. And mostly to scare the snakes, which come out at night to hunt. For the same purpose, discard good manners and shuffle your feet as loudly as possible.

Beach center

The center of Nai Yang Beach is pretty well settled. This is where most of the hotels are built, there are several small stores, restaurants, bars and tour bureaus. And the traditional massage parlors, of course. By the way, there you will find a cab rank, where you can go not only to the airport, but also to any part of the island, including the best beaches of Phuket.

There are also excursions (read more about Phuket Sea Tours) to the island’s main attractions – to Ban Pe Waterfall, Wat Chalong or Big Buddha. And also to the Phuket Night Market. If you make an arrangement with the bombers, you can go off-island – to Krabi Town, to ferry to the islands of Kao Lak or Lanta. But it will be more expensive than from the island’s main bus station, where minivans depart on the above routes. For example, to Lanta, the officials will take you for about 250 baht, and to Krabi for 150.

The center of the beach is not much different from the rest of the tourist spots on the Phuket coast. The road runs from it only fifty meters away. Vacationers are provided with sunbeds (free of charge), which stand in four rows here. There are offers of water entertainment, among which I would like to mention the rental of kayak boats. You will not find this even on Patong, where it seems to cater to all the whims of tourists.

The central part of Nai Young Beach in Phuket

There aren’t too many people in this part of the beach, even in high season, and with the onset of calendar summer and the rains, it’s virtually deserted. The coastal highway is practically empty throughout the day, with the occasional motorcycle passing by. At night, this part of the beach is also practically deserted.

South side of the beach

Nai Yang Beach in Phuket is a really sparsely populated part of the coast, which is especially noticeable in its southern part. There is still no pavement to this part of the beach. The access road is the usual gravel dirt road, like in our province. Externally, the southern part is indistinguishable from the northern part, except that Thais do not visit it. There is no one there all day, you can feel like Robinson and Friday.

The scenery is really beautiful, though – lots of tropical trees and some nameless stream flowing into the sea. The place is slowly being developed, though. On the other side of the creek, about two hundred meters from it, the hotel Imperial Adamas Beach is built. But even there, there are still very few vacationers. So if you have rented a bike in Phuket and you’re looking for solitude, Nai Yang Beach is the best choice!”

What to do

What to do at Nai Young Beach? The Nai Yang place itself in Phuket is pretty boring and uncreative. So if you want to have access to a lot of interesting places (and they are not that far away), you better have transportation. At least a bike for rent.

Then you will have access to most of the natural attractions of the island, of which I would like to mention Bangpe, the largest waterfall on the island (read more about the beautiful Phuket waterfalls). And also a couple of interesting temple complexes – Wat Phra Nang Sang and Wat Pratong. And, of course, Aquapark Splash Jungle, located near the airport, on Mai Khao Beach.

Shopaholics can satisfy their passion at Surin Beach, a 20-minute cab ride away, which has the largest concentration of large stores of all kinds. Stay there until the evening and you can go to the night clubs. Phuket’s largest trade center, the Festival Center, is in Phuket Town, a little under an hour away.

You can contact a kiteboarding or surfing school right on the spot. Canoes are available for rent on the beach. At the northern end, you can visit the coral reef; you’ll need a snorkel and flippers. If you like to soak, you can have a Thai massage or a spa. The hotel The Slate offers a whole program of health clubs: yoga, water aerobics, tennis. There are even sections of Thai boxing and karate. And the most active ones can take a walk or ride a bike through the neighborhoods.

Three days a week – Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday – there is a spontaneous market between the Mongkol Vararan Temple and the Dewa Phuket hotel. It opens in the afternoon and runs until sunset. You can buy fruits, souvenirs, and other small things. You can satisfy your bodily hunger at the makashnitsa, where rice and chicken are the most common dishes.

Hotels

Hotels on Nai Yang Beach are mostly in the middle part of the beach. Among the dozen offers we would like to mention The Slate, Nai Yang Beach Resort, Dewa Phuket. They are on the opposite side of the coastal highway from the water’s edge, which is deserted most of the day. Two beach mattresses and an umbrella are offered free of charge to guests and 200 baht a day to guests. You can find the most suitable hotel at hotellook.ru or roomguru.ru. And you can see the best of them in the selection below.

  1. Cheap
  2. Popular
  3. With a sea view

This stretch of Phuket’s coastline is the least dangerous during the rainy season. There are no high waves or battering currents. This is because it is sheltered from the elements by a coral reef, located from it at a distance of half a kilometer. The shallowest entrance to the water in the north, in the south the depth is greater. There are places where at low tide exposed stones. Such an area, for example, is near the hotel Imperial Adamas Beach Resort.

How to get there

So, how to get to Nai Young Beach? From Phuket Airport the only way is by taxi, neither buses nor minivans go that way. The average cost is 300 baht.

Buses go from the island capital towards Nai Yang (flight to the airport). Departing from the old bus station, the fare is about 100 baht. Get off at the Nai Yang sign, then catch a tuk-tuk. Get ready to wait, they rarely operate. The best transfer option is to stop at the Tesco Lotus Market in Talang Township, which is located halfway between Nai Yang and the Monument to Heroes. There is a sunteo parking lot next to it.
