How to get a visa for Thailand

Permit to Thailand is much easier, faster and cheaper than the same visa to the Schengen countries, which makes 3 weeks. You can get it in just 2 working days at the consulate. What are the necessary documents to obtain a Thai visa, I will not tell you, as these requirements are constantly changing and each may be individual. But I will give you a link to the consulate of Thailand in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Tips for applying for Thai visa

Frequently, consuls do not require additional documents such as work certificate, hotel reservation, copy of return ticket from Thailand and so on. But I recommend you if possible to show these documents, they will show that you are a decent tourist and the chance of rejection will decrease significantly.

The consulate of Thailand is in Moscow, so if you are a Russian citizen and want a Thai visa you have to spend money on your way to Moscow, unless you are already there. And citizens of Belarus have no choice, they have to go to the Russian capital in any case, as they are not allowed into Thailand with a stamp.

What are the visas to Thailand?

  • stamp in your passport
  • study
  • tourist
  • children;
  • retirement;
  • non-immigrant.

Stamp in passport

The stamp is put when you arrive at the international Thailand airport. And you do not have to run to the Thai consulate for a visa before your flight. But… if you are a citizen of the Russian Federation, then after filling out the migration card to Thailand, you are allowed to stay in Thailand for no more than 30 days, if you are a citizen of Ukraine, Baltic States, Kazakhstan – no more than 15. After that time, you may cross the border of the neighboring country, such as Cambodia, Laos, or Malaysia. And then immediately return back to Thailand, thereby gaining another 30 days (15 for citizens of CIS countries) of stay in Thailand.

In order to receive a stamp at the airport, you will have to present the amount of $500 per person to prove that you have enough money to live on. Plus they may ask for a return ticket from Thailand or its reservation. But such requests are not very common, I personally have not been asked anything yet.

Visa to Thailand

To reiterate, the advantage of such a stamp is that you don’t have to run around the consulates to get a visa to Thailand. All the more so that your visa may be denied. And so this method in the Kingdom is called the “visa-aran”. If your stay in Thailand is coming to an end, you order a visa-ran to cross the border from local firms and go whole bus. It costs about $50.

Or to save money, you can also do it on your own. You cross the border of Thailand, they stamp your departure, you go on to the customs of the neighboring country where they stamp your entry into their country. Then you immediately return in the opposite direction to Thai customs. You do not have to wait for days, even a minute, let alone a second! And you can stay in Thailand again for another 30 days.

Even if you are not allowed back when crossing the border for the second or third time, don’t despair. Try to wait for another shift, maybe another border guard will be more lenient towards you. Or move in the direction of another state. For example, if you crossed Cambodia and are not allowed back, go to Laos or Malaysia and from there to Thailand.

Important! Due to the political situation in Thailand, visa-ran has been canceled. This may be a temporary government decision.

Tourist visa in Thailand

Tourist visas come in:

    • Single entry visa for 90 days. With this visa you can not stay in Thailand for all 90 days at once, but only 60, then go to any immigration office (such as Samui or Hua Hin), pay about 2000 baht, and then you can stay in the Kingdom for another 30 days
    • Double entry visa for 180 days. Its essence is that you can use it to stay in Thailand as in the case of the single entry visa for 60 days. Then you also go to the immigration office, extend the visa for another 30 days. At the end of that month, leave Thailand through a neighboring state and return again. You are given another 60 days + 30 days in the migration document. Double entry visa is a little more difficult to obtain than a single entry visa.

Children’s visa to Thailand

  • For children in general, everything is simple. You need a minimum of documents, mainly photographs and a birth certificate (we advise to read How to prepare for a holiday in Thailand with children).
  • If both parents are traveling with a child, he only needs a birth certificate, if only one parent, then he would also need a notarized consent of the other parent.
  • If the child and both or one parent are flying on a stamp, the child will be required to have a passport.
  • If the child is flying alone, in addition to the passport, they will be required to have the consent of the parents, certified by a notary.
  • If the child is flying alone, in addition to the passport.

Getting a Visa to Thailand

Non-immigration visa to Thailand

It is issued only if you’re going to open a business in Thailand or go to study.

In the case of business, you open your own business, you are given work permit in Thailand and are given a visa for 1 year. Such a visa is usually opened by those who are really going to make money on it. Otherwise, it would be cheaper to get a study visa.

Student visa to Thailand can be obtained in the case of admission to the study, participation in various seminars and conferences. You can study, for example, English, Thai. And you do not need to go to classes. No one will take you by the hand. This visa will cost from $ 1000 to $ 3000 and will be issued for 1 year.

These visas are the most expensive. But you do not have to travel every month to renew your visa stamp.

Fines

Don’t violate Thailand’s immigration laws, as the fine or overstay for a lapsed visa will be $15 for each day. And if you often violate, you may not be allowed into the Kingdom anymore afterwards. And even worse – they can put you in a Thai prison, believe me, the Russian prison, if you compare with this – it’s a paradise. There is also a fine for losing your migration card.

If you have already received a couple of visas in a year, the third one will probably send you away. Don’t feel bad, because you can easily enter the country with the stamp. Then, after 2-4 months, apply for a new visa to Thailand.

You can easily enter the country with the stamp.
